2019 Suzuki Jimny

I know this model is currently restricted to Europe, but its long been a fan favourite amongst off road enthusiasts over there. It's pretty incredible what the compact 4x4 has been able to achieve, considering the extremely small powerplant that it typically has. The base 2019 model comes with a 1.5l that only puts out 100hp and 96lb-ft of torque, but look at it handle this course. Really like the redesign.

I doubt Suzuki has any interest in returning to the NA market, but if Mitsubishi can pull it back together, then I don't know what they can't do the same. I know the Jimny has been one of the top off roaders in Europe for years, mostly because its exceptionally capable for its price. They've done a great job giving it a modern look.

I had the chance to drive a previous gen Jimny last time I was overseas, and don't let its small packaging fool you. It is an incredibly capable little truck, which could easily rival that of much more expensive competitors.

It still boggles my mind that even with the success Kia had with the Soul and still does till today, that Suzuki isn't launching it in North America.
Do you think we might have to wait another year to hear about more markets?

Considering it was a decade ago when they gave up on the US market, I don't really know if they have much interest in returning. They blamed poor exchange rates as part of the problem, and with these changes to tariffs, it might be better for them to wait and see how that all plays out.

Well I also think they realize that a successful relaunch can't be based around just one vehicle. I don't know how much interest there would be in models like the Swift, Ignis or Vitara in NA.

I'm just glad that Suzuki is getting to the point they might be acquired by another company. Mazda would do well with Suzuki, it will let them try thing they can't under the Mazda badge but at the same time have models that can use Mazda components.

There have been rumors for years of a partnership between Toyota and Suzuki, as they have already developed vehicles together in the past. A lot of people we're hoping to see a Jimny based 4x4 to rival the Wrangler in the U.S.

I was hoping that the FT-4X concept was going to deliver on this prospect, but it doesn't look like it'll be seeing production any time soon. Maybe Toyota will reconsider depending on how well the new Bronco fares against the Wrangler.

I know its unlikely but Toyota should just revisit the FJ Cruiser, because it would've succeeded if it had launched at a different time. Their incredibly high resale value supports just how much of a demand there is in the market for something similar.
