Ford Baby Bronco will be based on the...Focus

According to a recent article from Autoguide, it looks like the new smaller variant of the Bronco, will be using a unibody, FWD architecture from the new Focus. Not only will it be sharing its platform with the Focus, but it could also very well share other components such as interior pieces, and perhaps even the 4 cylinder engine and 8 speed transmission. I know this isn't what many of us wanted to hear, but lets hope there is a big distinction between this model and the full-size Bronco.

This is more the result of Ford cutting down on their number of platforms. I just saw an article the other day saying they are looking to reduce that figure by half, which will help to save something like $30billion. All this really means is that the smaller Bronco will be a unibody and offer both FWD and AWD.

More research on this platform is needed because for all we know its as durable as it needs to be once refined for a CUV.
Car makers have done well with upfitting, what's stopping Ford?

I don't really see the issue with them used a crossover based platform over a truck based one. They've already indicated there will be a heavy focus on off road capability. But I've already seen some publications releasing articles that the baby Bronco will be just a rebodied Focus lol.

The Active crossover is a brand new model and that's not going to be someone's first thought when they hear Focus platform. Gearing is going to be really important if they are going with an AWD setup instead of a proper 4x4.

I wasn't expecting the smaller variant to really deliver in terms of off road capability to begin with. That being said I'm sure we'll see some more capable trim levels, similar to what Jeep did with the Trailhawk for the Renegade.

Whatever it ends up being, it'll still be better than the Ecosport. That model isn't doing Ford any favours, and it proves that you cant simply release a model that was designed for another market and hope for the best.

I know Ford is doubling down on crossovers and SUV's but the Ecosport fails to really excel at anything in particular. Not sure how a vehicle of that size, with such a small engine is so inefficient. It'll probably be one of the first models to go the route of electrification.

The Ecosport has been a huge disappointment, both for Ford and most owners. Doesn't take much searching to come across serious issues with that platform. Imo the new Focus Estate is a much better option.

Lucky for Ford is that the new Escape is due soon. I believe they scheduled these launches to act as backups. naturally buyers will go to what have proven to be a good product, Escape are exactly that.
