Unfortunately automakers build cars for the masses and not the fans. Even though I agree that the new Blazer couldn't be further from what it's nameplate represents, I can almost guarantee that its still going to see lots of interest. Mitsubishi is doing whatever they can to get back on track, so I'll give them a pass lol.

Fact is SUV's need some sporty DNA and there's nothing better than using a name that represented it.
Who knows, maybe down the road we'll see some high performing EV called "Evolution"

Mitsubishi has already shown off their e-Evolution concept, which is yet just another crossover. I don't know why they wouldn't instead just bring back the Lancer as an electric sports sedan.

They are taking advantage of the lack of competitors in the hybrid SUV/crossover segment, but that's going to change soon with the upcoming Kona and Niro. It'll be interesting to see if they continue to see demand for the Outlander PHEV once more alternatives hit the market.

Lucky for brands like Ford, perception can work to their advantage.
Once Ford gets a product right, it sells. The Ford Focus is a great example of this, past generations never did nearly as well but rival products proved there was demand.
Today its one of the best hatches you can buy

People tend to forget that Mitsubishi is a part of the Nissan-Renault alliance, and that has made a significant difference in their ability to turn the company around. And Ford was really starting to make progress with the new Focus and Fiesta, but unfortunately it was a little too late. I really don't see how they weren't making a profit on either model.

Considering there are also reports that they may eliminate their sedans in Europe as well, there really must not be a whole lot of interest in either model. The 2019 Focus is looking to be the best model to date however, so with some more time on the market, perhaps they could've seen better numbers.

The new Focus platform is looking to be the basis of a lot of their future models, so at least the investments made so far haven't been a waste. They could considering return to cars once full electrification is underway, though many of their competitors will get to market first.

I guess it shouldn't come to a surprise. On that note i'll be interested in how they tune the Active AWD to be different. Odds are it will carry over, but tuning profile will need to meet very different needs.
