New Ford Patent!!!

Ford just filed for a new patent this month for a canopy/awning system that would attach to the back of a liftgate/hatch of an SUV. This has to find its way on the Bronco, right?!?!?

Here is also the link as reported by AllFordMustangs.com. https://www.allfordmustangs.com/2018...suvs-liftgate/

That sure is interesting, and its great to see that the Bronco may be home to a bunch of new designs/accessories not found elsewhere in Ford's lineup. Unique features like this will certainly help it to establish itself as a key player in the segment. Are we thinking this just mounts to the bottom of the liftgate?

Smart move because with the current demographic, active lifestyles are a large part of it. Even Audi has done this to a segment most wouldn't think wants active gear.

Based on the pics I posted, it appears that to be the case. But, I listed in the "Top 5 Must Have" that I thought the new Bronco should have either a flip-up window (66-77 style) or a roll down window (80-96). I think the new Bronco would benefit from having a tailgate like the old models just on tradition. Its not that big of deal of course, as I know lift gates are more practical and economical but I always liked the tailgate. Part of their charm I suppose.

Absolutely, "active" is certainly the new buzzword. I was not aware of that feature on the Audi. I do remember the Pontiac Aztec coming with a tailgate style tent and even had a cooler for a console.

Oh man the Pontiac Aztek..a car that was certainly had no issues being different from its competitors. I wonder if GM has any interest in bringing it back...with a significant redesign of course.

GM got really unlucky because now vehicles as "ugly" as it was are now some of the best selling and highly anticipated products selling today. BMW, Mercedes and even Lamborghini are seeing success.

Yeah quirky cars are definitely trending these days, and I think the Aztek would have done much better if it had released later. With the growing interest in outdoor/active vehicles as of late, a new Aztek certainly makes sense. You guys ever see this rendering?

Wow that's a pretty crazy looking rendering, and looks nothing like the stock model. I for one would be really interested in a hatchback/wagon with this kind of styling. I think its only a matter of time before we see interest in this segment return.

The Aztek had way more "active" amenties, none of which I can remember but it looked like a shortened minvan. Had it had just a little more lift with some length, it may have fostered more of a following. Everything about it to me was just so "in-between". Too short for a mini van, too bloated for a crossover, too low for an adventure mobile, etc. It was almost everything....but as a whole it was nothing.

Yeah I think you're absolutely right about the Aztek doing a lot of different things, but not really excelling at any one area in particular. Perhaps GM will consider a re-release of the Aztek, considering the growing demand for utilitarian vehicles.
