I am a little curious what vehicles police forces are going to begin looking at, now that Ford wont be offering sedans in North America anymore. I definitely don't foresee them rolling around in the new Active crossover aha.

This is assuming Ford stays true to the old Bronco and comes out with something that's not a glorified SUV with a bash plate. That would be disappointing but even if they don't sell them at utility vehicles to gov't institutions, fleets sales will probably be fine.

To be honest the police may have to look to another manufacturer for new interceptor units. I believe there have been forces in Asia that have gone with the new Stinger, and I know various states already utilize the Charger. There's also the new Ford Edge ST, which I'm sure is being considered.

Tough to say at this point due to the fact we don't know what Ford has planned for the Bronco but so far the Explorer isn't losing momentum. Forced might just be waiting on a next generation Explorer instead of another model.

The Edge ST is a definite possibility, as it will be offering around 335hp with its turbocharged engine. I'm sure that a large portion of their shrinking sedan sales, were from fleet sales to police departments.

Ford is also due for a new Escape which has already been used for other government services. It seems that car makers are looking to target not just the segment they're in but surrounding segments, next Escape should be following that lead.

That "concept" is a real vehicle that Ford has vested interest in. Ford bought the Brazillian company that produced it. For those that don't know its called the Troller. And while Ford may use different facets of that vehicle, the new Bronco won't look like it. Ford has already stated that.

I hadn't heard of that vehicle before, so thanks for clarifying. Certainly looks like we could see a bunch of its components used on the new Bronco's platform. Specifically the 4WD, 5 speed manual and dana axels.

Yeah, I certainly like its "no-nonsense" drivetrain. The body isn't all bad, little nosey to me and squished in the rear but it grows on you. Especially being put to use in the South American terrain.

I believe that Ford has made significant changes to that platform since purchasing it, and it now sits on a modified version of the T6 Ranger. I think its close similarity to the styling of the Wrangler is what has prevented Ford from expanding it to other markets. That and the fact that it only uses a turbo diesel engine.
