Bronco reported to get 7 speed manual

According to a report that surfaced yesterday, the Bronco could introduce a 7 speed manual transmission option. Sources said that Ford has tasked Getrag to build this transmission specifically for the off road oriented SUV and it as been dubbed the MT-88. The report claims it will be paired to Fords 2.7l twin turbo V6. The transmission will be ready for the 2021 model year and will work with AWD applications. https://jalopnik.com/the-2020-ford-b...smi-1829563048

I'll be interested in seeing what MPG this will help us get but its hard not to notice how many brands have gone beyond 7 gears. Even Ford themselves have a 10-speed transmission.

Was not expecting to see a 7 speed. Typically this is really only seen on performance cars like the 911 or C7. That 2.7l in other Ford products does deliver more than 300hp.

At least it's looking like the delays for the official unveiling will be worth the wait. I'm guessing that we will have more than just one powertrain configuration from launch.

Rumor has it this is the manual transmission that the Bronco may use. Looks like the gear ratio is locked out to 8.

I really want the Bronco to save me from having to buy a poorly made Jeep or ugly Subaru. Any car I buy, even new, is going to be a project car at some level for me. With a Jeep, I just figured there'd be more to fix, even right off the showroom floor (see the recent recall for bad welds).

The news that a 7-speed transmission is being considered has put the Bronco in the lead for my next new vehicle purchase.

There are a lot of people waiting on a proper alternative to the Wrangler. Even the new Jimny looks like a better option but I don't know if it will ever be offered outside of Europe.

I know I'm just asking for opinions and not facts, but does this mean the manual transmission is likely not a base-model option, but something for an upmarket trim-level?

I just want a manual transmission in a base model that'll be a good start for modifying.

If it follows the trend that we usually see, it should be offered on the entry level version. We'll have to wait and see how many different engine options they plan on providing.

An electric Bronco might be a good idea and recently Ford dropped a Mustang Electric teaser that might have some influence on models that can share variations of its technology.
